Nigels fishing tips

This site was originally set up for me to share fishing tips for various seasons. Please let me know if you find them useful.


Different gear are needed on different times of year. And also dependant on what fish you are aiming to catch. Shore fishing are also different from fishing from a boat. There are also some tips about fly fishing. Enjoy!

Tips for fishing in February - April

PERKS

300/700 gms.


Colours: silver/blue (top colour), silver, silver/green, red/yellow.

JIGS

These are good for big cod.

RODS

30/50 lb, class without roller top eye. 


For extra sport use a 20lb class rod and abu 
7000, penn 310,
Fladen Maxximus etc.

GUMMIE MACS

6/0---10/0, red top colour,
red with coloured tip, orange.

Place gummie mac directly on top of perk.

Paternoster rigs are not needed (flyers).

Tip! Leave "x-mas tree decorations" at home!

LINE COUNTERS

Clip on type. Balzer from germany.


LINE COUNTER REELS

Penn, DAIWA, Fladen.


LINE

Braid 30/50 lbs, breaking strain.


HOOKS

Trebles in sizes 6/0--10/0. Good quailty split rings and trebles are recomended, 
Mustad, vmc etc

X-mas tree decoration

Some examples, but these are not needed.

Tips for fishing in May - July

PERKS

300/700 g


Colours:  silver/blue (top colour), silver, silver/green, red/yellow, red/black.

RODS AND REELS

Left to right:
1) 9' spinning rod, medium action, fixed spool reel.
2) 7' 6 light pilk casting rod (type Öresund, Sweden), ABU 6 500 syn.
3) 8' medium boat rod, 100-135 g, TCA Seasprit SS 348C
4) 9' 6 pilk casting rod, 100-180 g, Shimano fixed spool.

For Deeper water use 30 lb class gear for heavier perking.


LINE 

Braid, 15 lb - 30 lb. Mono, use IGFA rated nylon (Ande is one of the best for line class fishing).  

SHADS

Main colours:

Coalfish: blue, blue/white, blue/black/white.

Cod: yellow/red, yellow, orange.

Tusk: orange


Cast out and let sink to the bottom. Fast retreive for coalfish. Up to 10 m for cod,

slow retreive.

SMALL PERKS

80-150 g

Fishing, same as shads.


BAIT

Top bait = herring. Paternoster (flyers), basic nylon, 100 lb for coalfish.

BOTTOM FSHING WITH BAIT (BASIC)

TACKLE

Standard boom.


50 cm line (heavy for fishing tusk).


Hooks variable but circle hooks for deep water and fishing with nylon.


Use muppets - octopus or coloured tube. Orange works well for tusk.




GUMMIE MACS

Top colours: yellow/black (cod), red/green/lumie, blue, black and yellow (coalfish). Smaller ready made paternoster system from Fladen etc. also works well.

RODS AND REELS

Left to right:

Tips for fly fishing

ROODS AND REEL

Pike-, sea trout rod


LINE

Tungston, heavy line for getting down fast. Tungston eyes on flys to add weight.


FLYS

We have fished down to 60 m and taken coalfish up to 13 kg and cod up to 5 kg.
